I’s always difficult to get men into a routine, especially when it comes to something like looking after your skin. Most men will fall into it routine haphazardly by just grabbing the first product they see on the shelves.

Before starting a routine to look after your skin, you first have to know your skin type. Your skin will fall into one of three categories:

Dry skin – Small pores, rarely have zits, tight and uncomfortable

Oily skin – Looks shiny, large pores, prone to breakouts and blackheads

Normal skin – Mostly problem free skin

Once you have identified your skin-type you can move on to the next part.

Try these routines for each skin type:

Dry Skin

  • Wash your face, but don’t use anything that will dry it even further. Avoid normal bar soap at all costs. Water that is too warm will also dry out your skin.
  • Apply a toner to your skin
  • Apply an alcohol-free moisturizer.
  • Use a gentle facial scrub once a week to remove dead skin cells and exfoliate.

Oily Skin

  • Wash your face, Avoid normal bar soap, because it clogs your pores. Use warm water to rinse your skin.
  • Apply a toner to your skin
  • Apply an oil-free moisturizer, daily.
  • Use a facial scrub twice a week or more to remove dead skin cells and clean up your pores.

Normal / Combination Skin

  • Clean your face with a light gel or foam cleanser. Remember to never use bar soap, as it will dry out your skin. Also never rinse with water that is too hot.
  • Apply a toner to your skin
  • Moisturize your skin. Ideally, you should use two different moisturizers. A hydrating one for your dry spots and an oil-free moisturizer for greasy areas.
  • Exfoliate your skin twice a week by using a facial scrub.
