VOTER REGISTRATION FOR WINTER PRIMARY ELECTION
Mail registration:
Last day to postmark
application and last day it
must be received by board
of elections.
§ 5-210 (3) Completed application forms showing a dated cancellation mark of the United States
Postal Service or contained in an envelope showing such a dated cancellation mark
which is not later than the twenty-fifth day before the election, and received no later
than the twentieth day before such election shall entitle the applicant to vote in such
election, if he is otherwise qualified.

The letter Steve above seems to mean that as long as you switch parties before the year’s end, you’re good for the primaries, and if thats the case, this website should change the date on the previous page.

I just received notice from my local BOE that I must remain a Democrat until after the 2007 General Election. Here is their exact letter to me:

Dear Voter,
Your present enrollment is Democratic and must remain the same, according to New York State Law, until after the 2007 General Election.

Your new enrollment will be changed after the 2007 General Election, which is November 06, 2007.

If you have any questions please call the Board of Elections.

So, my question is… am I all set to vote in the primaries for Ron Paul in Feb. 2008?

After tomorrow, we still have all the new
voters, and we have registered republicans
that we need to get the word to.
So the job is just beginning.

It’s not too late. Just go directly to
your local County Board of Elections
tomorrow and fill the form out there.
Tell them you want a receipt with a date
stamp.

GO to your LOCAL COUNTY BOARD of ELECTIONS.

Just GO THERE. Then you don’t need to worry
about a postmark date.
You can do this up to the point they close
on October 12th, Friday.

WTF I wanted to vote for ron paul and now its to late

Okay, with articles everywhere on the subject saying that yes, Oct. 12 is the deadline, I called my local BOE office once again.

This time, they told me that Oct. 12 IS the deadline — that you have to have your enrollment form postmarked by that date.

Then I called the Albany office at 518 474-6220 about another issue. They said that the form to CHANGE PARTY AFFILIATION must be RECEIVED at the BOE by Oct. 12th, and that my local board gave me the wrong info.

They suggest that I fax my form to my local BOE with a note saying the original is coming, and reminding them that they said it must be RECEIVED by Oct. 17th (not 12th)– and then they may “consider” accepting it.

They also confirmed that the “government postmark” can also be an official ship date noted by other carriers like FedEx, DHL etc. (said there had been legal cases about this)

I don’t know what’s going on with the dates mix up, but this has been more than frustrating!
